ACTFL OPI Workshop Information

ACTFL OPI Workshops are organized and scheduled by ACTFL at different locations across the country and can also be scheduled on-site at individual academic institutions. For more information on scheduling a Full OPI or Modified OPI Assessment Workshop at your school, contact lhaims@actfl.org.

The Full OPI Assessment Workshop

Prerequisite: Affiliation with an academic institution as defined by ACTFL, undergraduate degree in a related field, minimal proficiency level of Advanced in the language of training.

An academic institution is an accredited school, college, or university where foreign languages are taught. The term affiliation with an academic institution is defined as a current faculty and/or staff member who is involved in the instruction or evaluation of language students.

Private language companies that offer translation services or language testing do not qualify under ACTFL’s definition of an academic institution. Also, private for profit companies also do not qualify.

This four-day workshop is an introduction to the techniques of administering and rating the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI). Participants observe , rate, and conduct live practice interviews across all proficiency levels (Novice through Superior). They critique and discuss interview elicitation, structure, and rating. Following the workshop, participants are eligible to apply to become ACTFL certified OPI Testers.

 

The Modified OPI Assessment Workshop

Prerequisite: Affiliation with an academic institution as defined by ACTFL, undergraduate degree in a related field, minimal proficiency level of Intermediate High in the language of training.

 

This two or three-day workshop is an introduction to the techniques of administering and rating the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) at the Novice and Intermediate levels. Participants observe, rate and conduct live practice interviews. They critique and discuss interview elicitation, structure, and rating. Following this workshop, participants are eligible to apply to become ACTFL certified Testers with Limited Certification.
